With the US Open starting in a couple of days, the 2023 winner Coco Gauff showed her dedication on a rainy day on Wednesday. The rain plagued the action and sent players away from the practice courts.
However, that did not stop world no. 3 from working on her troubled initial shot that has bothered her for months. Coco’s serving woes have been a recurring theme, especially in 2025.
The young gun has hit a double fault in at least 10% of the points on serve in 19 of 47 matches this season, marking her worst season in that department. Those numbers highlight the urgency for change!

For example, Gauff sprayed 42 double faults in three matches in Montreal and added 16 to her tally in her Cincinnati defeat to Jasmine Paolini. The American reacted ahead of the US Open.
She shook up her coaching staff, parting ways with Matt Daly and J.C. Faurel. Instead, Coco brought in biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMillan to stabilize her initial shot and avoid costly mistakes that have plagued her game.
Gauff claimed her second Major crown in June this year after ousting Aryna Sabalenka at Roland Garros. However, the 21-year-old embraced a 4-4 score at the next four tournaments, including an early Wimbledon setback.

Despite poor form and lack of matches, Gauff’s grit, dedication for improvements and past results in New York keep her in the conversation for her second US Open crown.
Coco debuted in the US Open main draw in 2019 after falling in the qualifying round a year before. The youngster reached the third round of the home Major at 15 before embracing the quarter-final three years later.
Gauff went all the way in 2023, conquering the home Major at 19 over Aryna Sabalenka. She failed to mirror that result last year following the fourth-round loss to Emma Navarro.
