The final of the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz rewarded the local idol, who lifted this trophy for the second year in a row without losing a single set. The world number 2 reiterated that he is superior to all his opponents in indoor conditions, where he has been unbeaten for exactly two years, while the 22-year-old Spaniard can be proud of his performances in Turin on a surface that does not enhance his game.

These two young champions have created a huge gap compared to the other players and the general feeling is that they are destined to dominate the men’s tour in the coming years as well. The last act of the ‘Masters’ was balanced like most of their clashes, with a few points that made the difference in favor of the 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria.

The six-time Grand Slam champion failed to take advantage of a set point in the first set and also had a break lead in the second set, but his level also dropped due to a leg injury that forced him to miss the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna scheduled for this week.

Vincenzo Santopadre’s analysis

Interviewed by ‘La Stampa’, the top Italian coach Vincenzo Santopadre analyzed the final of the ATP Finals in detail: “It must be admitted that Sunday’s match was not as extraordinary as others, but Jannik won because he was humble and tenacious. He didn’t play his best tennis for most of the match, his serve wasn’t as effective as in previous matches, but he never gave up.”

Matteo Berrettini’s former coach also added: “I don’t think this clash will leave marks on either player. Sinner had already shown that he had incredible mental strength by winning Wimbledon after what happened at Roland Garros, while Carlos left Turin with the certainty of ending the year at the top of the ATP rankings.”

The Italian and the Spaniard will be the protagonists of an exhibition match in Seoul on January 10 2026.
