Ben Shelton admits it hasn’t been the most consistent of seasons for him in 2025, but hopes he can make a run at the Paris Masters and also secure his first ATP Finals appearance.

During the summer, Shelton achieved two big milestones when he became a Masters champion in Toronto and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 6 in the world. Also, it is worth mentioning that the American made his first Australian Open semifinal this year, as well as his maiden Wimbledon quarterfinal. 

Shelton’s Toronto run was impressive enough to make the American public excited going into the US Open as some even predicted the 22-year-old had what it took to become the first American man since 2003 to win a Grand Slam champion. But those hopes were quickly squashed after the home star sustained a shoulder injury and retired in the US Open third round.

Since returning to action, Shelton is just 1-2 – he lost in his Shanghai Masters opener and only made the Basel round-of-16 last week.

“For me, it hasn’t been all straightforward. It hasn’t been just winning all the time. There has been times where I’ve played really well, there’s been times where I haven’t played so well and had to get myself out of a slump. I think that’s just tennis. It’s a roller coaster. For me to be able to find my great tennis more consistently later in the year has always been a great thing for me,” the 23-year-old said on Tennis TV.

After not doing well in Shanghai and Basel, Shelton will hope to turn the corner at this week’s Paris Masters. In the first round, Shelton plays against Flavio Cobolli. 

In the Race to the ATP Finals, the American tennis star is currently sixth on the list. The American has a great shot at making the ATP Finals and there is no doubt that he will be determined to do so this week.
