Jessica Pegula and Amanda Anisimova put on a show in New Jersey as the 2024 US Open finalist came back from a set down to edge out this year’s Wimbledon finalist 3-6 7-6 (5) 10-8.

Anisimova, who enjoyed a career-best season on the Tour and finished it with a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world, made a strong start and routinely took the opener.

Down by a set, sixth-ranked Pegula started to play better and managed to force a decider after winning a tight second set via a tie-break.

In the match tie-break, the 31-year-old stepped up and managed to complete a three-set win over the 24-year-old in an all-American showdown.

Pegula wasn’t supposed to play against Anisimova in New Jersey

Initially, Anisimova was scheduled to take on Emma Raducanu in New Jersey on December 7th and also meet the same rival the next day in Miami.  But Raducanu, who ended her 2025 season in mid-October due to physical and health issues, withdrew from the exhibition, citing a foot injury. the 2024 US Open runner-up then stepped in as a replacement.

Anisimova and Pegula will meet again on Monday.
