Jannik Sinner has had another truly exciting season, in which he managed to win six trophies despite the three-month stop caused by the controversial ban he was given by WADA between February and May. The Italian ace needed all the support of his team and family in that delicate moment, but he did not lose his extraordinary level by immediately reaching the final at the Rome Masters 1000 when he returned to the professional tour.

The most exciting moment of his year was certainly the success at the Wimbledon Championships during the summer, having become the first Italian tennis player ever to win the most prestigious tournament in the world. At the beginning of the year, the 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria had defended his title at the Australian Open with a run bordering on perfection.

Sinner has changed sport in Italy

In addition to becoming the leader of men’s tennis together with his huge rival Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik’s vehement rise has contributed to the rebirth of the entire Italian movement. The last part of the season was a success for Italian tennis, considering that Sinner won the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin again and the team led by Filippo Volandri won the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna for the third year in a row.

In a recent interview with ‘Fanpage’, top TV commentator Elena Pero commented on Sinner’s impact on the entire sport in his country: “There was a huge expectation of him from the beginning of his career, when he was still working with Riccardo Piatti. The experts had understood that it was a special talent, destined to do great things. He’s a reserved guy with a natural inclination, but he has to deal with a gigantic exposure now.”

She also recalled Jannik’s triumph in London: “I must admit that I was moved at that moment. No Italian player had ever won that tournament and Sinner gave us all immense joy.”

The world No.2 will play an exhibition match with Alcaraz in Seoul on January 10, before defending the title at the AO once again.
