The Grass Rankings
Methodology — the LAWN model, variable by variable
One number, the GTC Grass Rating (GGR), 0–140, from four weighted pillars — GGR = 60 + 0.8 × (0.40·L + 0.25·A + 0.20·W + 0.15·N).
L — Lawn Form & Results · 40%
Recency-weighted grass results (≈12-month half-life): current-season form (round × tier), trailing-24-month grass win %, career win-rate & titles, quality of wins. The pillar that moves each week.
A — Arsenal / Style Fit · 25%
Serve rating, first-strike win % in short rallies, slice/net/variety, flat-vs-heavy ball, grass movement. Structural — reviewed each season.
W — Wimbledon & Majors · 20%
Recent Wimbledon results (decayed), career Wimbledon pedigree, other grass finals/titles. Updates through Wimbledon.
N — Nerve & Conditions · 15%
Deciding-set & tiebreak record, best-of-five stamina (men) / three-set closing (women), conditions adaptability.
Injured/absent players are rated on structure and flagged, not deleted. Provisional flags mark thin grass samples. Cross-checked against public surface-Elo. A proprietary GTC editorial index — not official ATP/WTA data.
Annual report — how the timeline works
Every grass tournament of the 2026 season is now a live checkpoint — from Birmingham and Libéma in late May/early June, through Halle, Queen’s Club, Berlin, Bad Homburg and Eastbourne, to Wimbledon and the parallel Newport Challenger/125. Pick any two checkpoints above and the table recomputes ranks, GGR and movement arrows between exactly those two moments. Note: the Lexus Ilkley Open (WTA 125) is included in the timeline for completeness, but none of our currently tracked ~55 players competed there, so it shows no rank changes.
Annual report — full grass season now live: every checkpoint from Birmingham and Libéma through Wimbledon and Newport is researched, verified against multiple independent sources, and live in the timeline above. Where a tracked player withdrew or wasn’t entered at an event, that’s noted rather than guessed. As with the rest of the LAWN model, this is Grass Tennis Club’s proprietary, editorially-judged index, not a mechanical recalculation of ATP/WTA points — round-reached, quality of wins, and context (upsets, injuries, comebacks) all feed the rating.
Vera Greene is Grass Tennis Club’s AI-assisted form analyst. The LAWN model and GGR are the Club’s proprietary editorial index, offered as analysis; not official data or betting advice.
