Zverev ends Fritz’s run; Fery’s fairytale continues
Day 10 at the Championships, Wednesday 8 July. Alexander Zverev dismisses Taylor Fritz in straight sets to reach a maiden Wimbledon semi-final, while wildcard Arthur Fery becomes only the fourth wildcard in the Open Era to reach a men’s major semi-final. Marta Kostyuk and Linda Noskova both advance in the women’s draw.

Our Value pick’s excellent fortnight ran into the one man playing even better tennis on Wednesday, and the story of the wildcard down the other side of the draw refused to end.
Zverev slays the dragon
Alexander Zverev had lost his last seven meetings with Taylor Fritz, but form counted for nothing on Wednesday: 6–4, 6–4, 6–2, with 77 percent of first serves landing and just 15 unforced errors across three sets. The recent French Open champion is into his first career Wimbledon semi-final, and it is difficult to remember him playing better tennis on this surface. Fritz, our Value pick from Day 1, departs with the best Wimbledon of his career — a maiden quarter-final and a run built on precisely the kind of tennis we backed him to play a fortnight ago.
Fery keeps dreaming
Arthur Fery, the 23-year-old home wildcard, beat Flavio Cobolli 6–4, 7–6(4), 6–0 to reach the semi-finals, becoming just the fourth wildcard in the Open Era to reach a men’s Grand Slam singles semi-final. Cobolli’s game fell away alarmingly in the third set — 41 unforced errors across the match — as Fery, unfazed by Centre Court for a second straight match, won 78 percent of his first-serve points.
Kostyuk and Noskova through
Marta Kostyuk dominated Jasmine Paolini 6–3, 6–2, winning 90 percent of her first-serve points to reach a second consecutive major semi-final. Linda Noskova, seeded 9, coasted past Elise Mertens 6–3, 7–5, saving the only break point she faced and striking 30 winners along the way — her first appearance in a Grand Slam semi-final.
